It will be the 11th time for the two sides to meet in an attempt to resolve the issue, ministry spokesman Qin Gang said at a regular briefing. He did not give details.

"China has always held that we must follow international law and the principle of fairness and hold talks in order to settle relevant issues relating to marine demarcation with our neighbors, including South Korea," Qin said.

At the heart of the dispute is the uninhabited Ieo islet, 152 kilometers (94 miles) southwest of South Korea's island of Mara, which both sides say is within their exclusive economic zone.
