Zimbabwean newspaper hails China-Africa summit

HARARE - Zimbabwean leading newspaper The Herald carried an article Thursday, lauding the upcoming Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, saying it looks set to mark a major step towards the consolidation of Sino-Africa relations.

"Unlike other successful economies, China has not been selfish. Testimony to this is this summit through which the Asian giant and this continent will seek to strengthen ties," said the article.

It said that reports this week that China's ministries of finance, commerce, development banks and the National Development Reform Commission were busy designing supportive policies and measures for closer co-operation with the continent tell the story about how China views Africa as a serious business partner.

The article said China's aggressive policy towards Africa has coincided with Zimbabwe's Look East policy and Zimbabwe has benefited from China's huge investment in Africa.

It criticized some developed countries for viewing China's aggressiveness and warmth towards this continent as a threat to their strongholds.

"On the contrary, to Africa, China presents an avenue through which the continent shrugs off its negative tag as a 'burden' and an outcast to the rest of the world," it said.
