HEFEI -- The drug watchdog in east China's Anhui province on Monday began
destroying more than 2.75 million recalled bottles of "Xinfu," a faulty
antibiotic drug that killed six people this summer.
The industrial license of the drug's producer, the Anhui Huayuan World-Best
Biology Pharmacy Co, was revoked and its top management dismissed.
The Anhui Provincial Food and Drug Bureau is supervising the destruction by
videotaping the process.
The State Food and Drug Administration discovered that the problematic
injection, produced in June and July, was not properly sterilized, with both
sterilization temperature and time being below the state-required safety levels.
The administration instructed the manufacturer to recall all "Xinfu" drugs by
August 31.
More than 3.7 million bottles of drug have been produced since June, with
more than 3.18 million bottles sold in 26 provinces across China.
