300 billion yuan consumed during Golden Week

Chinese citizens spent 300 billion yuan (US$28B) during the National Day Golden Week from October 1 to 7, an increase of 14.5% year on year, the People's Daily reports.

An official from the Ministry of Commerce said several trends appeared in the consumer market. One is consumption patterns have upgraded. High-tech products are popular with citizens, including mobile phones, LCD TV sets and digital products. Another is consumption tastes are healthier. Bookstores, libraries and science and technology museums were warmly welcomed by patrons.In addition, suburbs received more travelers than last year.

The official added during golden week, markets were abundant with staples for daily life and prices were stable. In addition, resource-saving was obvious. Even luxury packaging for mooncakes have all but disappeared.
