China's advisory body should explore new areas and forms to carry out its duties to create a sound environment for the development of political consultation in China, a senior advisor said Saturday.

Wang Zhongyu, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) called for better performance of the CPPCC to promote solidarity and cooperation among non-Communist parties that participate in and discuss state affairs.

Wang made the remarks at the CPPCC's celebration for the Moon Festival, where chairman Jia Qingling, together with more than 300 deputies attended.

Since Hong Kong and Macao returned to the motherland, the Chinese government has adhered to the principles of "One Country, Two Systems", "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong", and "Macao people governing Macao," and a high degree of autonomy and effectively maintained and promoted regional prosperity, stability and development, Wang said.

The CPPCC will work with Hong Kong and Macao compatriots for a better future of Hong Kong and Macao, Wang said.

"We miss even more our Taiwan compatriots and overseas Chinese at the time of the Moon Festival," Wang said. The Moon Festival or the Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for family reunions.

The complete reunification of our country serve the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation and it is the common wish of all Chinese people, Wang said.

"We believe, with the efforts of Chinese people, the great cause of peaceful reunification of the motherland will eventually be realized," he said.
