After many years' development, the flower in Yunnan now hold very important share in its farm exports, and the flower industry has become a pillar in the farming economy.

Known as the Kingdom of Plants, the local geological and climatic conditions of Yunnan are ideal for the growth of flowers, so Yunnan is the largest fresh flower producer in China. Over 90 percent of its flowers are for export, both to other Chinese provinces and neighboring countries.

The Dounan Flower Market in suburban Kunming is the largest in China. It opens from four o'clock in the morning till ten at night. Every day, airlines and railways are kept busy throughout the year transporting delicate China pinks, graceful lilies, colourful orchids and numerous other popular varieties around the country to meet demand.

A bunch of carnations, which is sold for 10 yuan at the flower retail market in Beijing, only costs 3 yuan at Dounan. Other decorative plants are also very cheap here. As a local flower grower says, the price at Dounan sets the prices for the markets all over the country. National prices rise and fall with the rising and falling of prices at Dounan market.

To meet the different demands, the flower and plants industry in Dounan is developing diverse varieties. A production chain of "grower-production base-sales company'' has been formed. High technologies are being applied in breeding and planting.

What's more, not satisfied with a strong domestic market, the locals are seeking more opportunities to conduct exchanges and cooperation with foreign businesses.

Greatly supported by the governments at all levels as well as helped by the international expertise, Kunming International Flower Auction Center (KIFA) succeeded its first deal on Dec,20 2002. KIFA has one auction hall, 2 auction clocks, 300 seats for buyers and other related facilities.

The establishment and operation of KIFA provide an open , fair and just trading platform for both the flower growers and buyers, which makes the dream of best flower get best price comes true.

Considering the surprising developing speed of Yunnan flower industry, KIFA will attract more and more buyers and suppliers into the auction by improvement and perfection of its operation and become the largest auction center in China and even in Asia in the near future.
