Yuxi

Yuxi, which means jade stream in Chinese,is the birthplace of Nie'Er, the musician who composed the National Anthem.

Yuxi is also the hometown of Yunnan Tobacco, which is superior in all the qualities such as color, fragrance and flavor. Its famous brand Hongtashan has been regarded as the most valuable brand of invisible assets in China since the 1980s.

Yuxi is situated in the center of Yunnan Province, only 98 km from Kunming, the capital of the province.

With a long history rich in civilization and culture, Yuxi is the well-known originating place of Ancient Dian Culture and still has in preservation many cultural heritages.

At Lijiashan in Jiangchuan County, archaeologists have discovered many ancient bronze wares produced during the Spring and Autumn Periods of the Han Dynasty. One of the unearthed bronze wares called the Statue of Buffalo and Tiger is very unique and delicate in both style and making, and therefore is of very great value as a piece of artwork,As the essence of ancient bronze culture in China,the statue is considered a rare national treasure.

At Maotianshan in Chenjiang county, the discovery of prchistoric bio-life fossils solves the mystiques of "the Riot of Life in the Cambrain Period".

The great Ailao Mountain is a huge museum devoted to the preservation of the cultural heritage of the different ethnic groups. Each group has their own unique history, culture, language, clothing, festivals and customs.

Yuxi boasts of its masculine mountains, beautiful rivers and elegant lakes. Here,the Fuxian Lake,theXingyun Lake and the Qilu Lake are just like a string of shining pearls decorating this miraculous land. Yuxi is also proud of the Xiushan mountain,one of the four most famous mountains in Yunnan.

Yuxi is the home of Hua Deng Opera, which features a humorous local dialect which makes many operagoers laugh to the point of tears.
