Economically affordable housing popular in Lanzhou (Newsphoto) Updated: 2006-09-21 11:10

Residents holding their hukou (housing registration) certificates
flock to buy economically affordable housing in Lanzhou, capital of west China's
Gansu province September 20, 2006. The houses are built to ease the difficulties
of low-and-medium income residents amid skyrocketing housing prices in the
province. The houses are priced at an average of 1000 yuan (US$125) to 1500 yuan
(US$185) per square meter, approximately 1000 yuan less than commercial houses.
