Bizarre weather of Sichuan kills fish (Xinhua) Updated: 2006-08-26 09:00
More than 1 million kilograms of fish have died since Wednesday in the
Mazitan Reservoir in Suining, Sichuan Province as a result of a sudden drop in
temperature. The city suffered a heavy drought this summer, with temperatures
hovering at more than 40 C for weeks, but they dropped to 20 C on Wednesday. The
dramatic temperature change has caused a reduction of the oxygen in the water,
leading to the death of the fish, according to the local environmental
monitoring bureau. [Xinhua]
