BEIJING -- State Councilor Zhou Yongkang on Thursday called for the strengthening of anti-terrorism training for security guards in order to ensure a safe 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

"As the international security situation is very complicated, anti-terrorism efforts are of great importance to the safety of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games," said Zhou.

He said a system to ensure a quick response to terrorist emergencies must be established in advance of the Olympic Games. All the security guards must be given anti-terrorism training courses and the Olympic stadiums' security facilities must be improved.

The country's Exit and Entry Administration should also improve their anti-terrorism capabilities prior to the Games and intelligence on terrorist activities must be intensified, he said.
