BEIJING-- China's retail and catering sectors post a year-on-year growth of 17.5 percent in sales during the National Day Holiday running from Oct 1-7, known as a "Golden Week" for businesses, according to the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) on Friday.

The revenues of the sectors totaled 696.2 billion yuan ($109.19 billion), as companies nationwide cashed in on the holiday and staged various promotions to boost their sales, the ministry said in a statement.

Commodity prices during the holiday have remained basically stable thanks to abundant supplies, said the ministry.

Compared with the day before the holiday, average retail prices in 36 large and medium-sized cities saw a 0.4 percent decrease in eggs and 0.3 percent growth in sugar, and the prices for cooking oils, flour and pork were almost flat, the ministry monitored.
