BYD Auto Co Ltd signed a contract with the Shenzhen public transportation sector to provide 200 pure electric buses and 300 pure electric taxis for the upcoming 26th Universiade (World University Games) .
It is a financial leasing contract, according to the report. After the games, these vehicles will serve for the city's public transportation system.
BYD, the Shenzhen-listed car maker, said the electric taxis have been tested in a one-year trial operation and the electric buses have also been tested in the past half year.
These electric taxis use a special iron battery that BYD developed, which can make the cars run 250 kilometers with a 20-minute battery charge.
