Macao's visitor arrivals up 14.5% in June

MACAO -- Macao's visitor arrivals in June this year reached 2,181,476, up 14.5 percent over the same month of 2010, according to figures released on Friday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
Of all the arrivals in June, 52.4 percent spent only one day, with about 641,186 arrivals coming from the Chinese mainland, the figures indicated.
Analyzed by place of residence, visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 21.7 percent year-on-year to 1.19 million, 55 percent of the total, of which 465,218 traveling to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme.
Visitors from Hong Kong (620,004), Taiwan (111,684), South Korea (31,114) and Singapore (28,086) increased by 8.9 percent, 4. 2 percent, 45.9 percent and 8.5 percent respectively, while those from Japan (27,051) decreased by 15.8 percent.
Total visitor arrivals were 13,246,656 in the first half of 2011, up 8.3 percent year-on-year, according to the DSEC.
Analyzed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by sea and by land totaled 5,225,256 and 7,214,350 respectively in the first half of 2011, up 3.8 percent and 13.4 percent year-on-year respectively, while visitor arrivals by air totaled 807,050 during the period, down 2.9 percent year-on-year.
