SYDNEY: Sydney's economic ties with China are set to grow through a new partnership with Chongqing city, Lord Mayor Clover Moore revealed on Tuesday.

The Sydney-Chongqing Business Forum, to be held next week here, is aimed at developing and strengthening economic ties between the two cities.

Representatives of a range of industries including financial services, banking, automobiles, chemicals and electronics will discuss business opportunities.

Moore said Sydney must engage with other international cities to help boost its economy.

"To maintain Sydney's status as a global city, we must forge new links between the city, governments at other levels and the business community," she said.

A "friendly co-operation agreement" will be signed by the New South Wales government, the city of Sydney and Chongqing to promote and develop friendship and co-operation.

Chongqing is the largest and most populated municipality of China, with 32 million people living in the region.
