A Chinese trade official asked Russia to provide more information as soon as possible about handling of Chinese merchants' goods confiscated by the Russian customs officers more than one year ago.
In an interview with Xinhua Wednesday, Sun Yongfu, chief of European Affairs Department of the Ministry of Commerce, also urged Russia to avoid unilateral action in this regard.
The goods, totaling 6,000 containers, were then confiscated by Russian customs, citing suspected smuggling as the reason for the seizure, according to Sun.
No further information is available.
China will continue to give guidance to Chinese companies operating from Russia to do business in accordance with the laws of Russia, said Sun.
"We also hope the Russian government could work harder to provide a favorable environment for doing trade and investment there," Sun added.
