Beijing's insurance premiums up 19.1% in 2009

Beijing's insurance sector saw its premiums income jump by 19.1 percent to 69.8 billion yuan ($10.2 billion) last year, the fourth double-digit increase in a row, the local industry regulator said Monday.

Beijing's insurance premiums up 19.1% in 2009 Stimulus policies rev up markets

Thanks to the government's favorable policy to stimulate car sales, income from property and casualty insurance premiums jumped by 22.6 percent to 16.4 billion yuan at the end of 2009. Income from life insurance premiums increased 19.3 percent to 46.6 billion yuan.

Currently, there are 84 insurance companies operating in Beijing, and their assets totaled 208.8 billion yuan at the end of 2009, up 21.3 percent from the beginning of 2009.
