Chinese shares close higher on Wednesday

Chinese equities rose Wednesday after a 3.45 percent tumble on the previous trading day, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.07 percent, or 66.64 points, to close at 3,290.17 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 2.69 percent, or 361.28 points, to close at 13,814.55 points.

Combined turnover shrank to 354.51 billion yuan ($52 billion) from 468.94 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 867 to 21 in Shanghai and by 789 to 24 in Shenzhen.
