A dispute between two IT giants

Editor's note: Chinese Internet conglomerate Tencent is now in a dispute with Qihoo 360, an antivirus software company. The war started in late September when Qihoo 360 alleged Tencent's QQ, China's most popular instant messaging service, was leaking users' private data and offered a new service on 360 Safe to prevent privacy leaks. Tencent has since accused Qihoo 360 of slander and business foul play.

Tencent Holdings Ltd, said it was shutting down QQ on computers installed with 360 anti-virus software.

In response, Qihoo 360 issued an online statement calling on netizens to stop using QQ for three days.

360 shut down "Koukou Bodyguard".

360 issued its new security software "Koukou Bodyguard". The software can block automatic pop-up advertisements on QQ. Previously, users have had to pay 10 yuan ($1.5) a month to Tencent for membership services that include blocking the advertisements.

Tencent said that the so-called privacy scanning is a misunderstanding about QQ's security solutions. QQ did not invade users' private information, and no privacy would be leaked after logging in to QQ, Tencent said.
