Mainland-Taiwan tourism expo kicks off in Taipei

TAIPEI: An expo aiming to promote tourism between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan launched Friday.

Organized by Taiwan's Travel Agent Association, the four-day expo has drawn mainland travel agency representatives from 18 provinces and cities, including Fujian, Guangdong and Zhejiang, with nearly 100 display booths.

Wu Chao-yen, a senior official with local travel management authority, said, "The momentum of development of cross-Taiwan Strait tourism is good with the future looking bright, too."

Fujian province has dispatched more than 60 representatives to the expo, the largest delegation from any one mainland province.

Many Taiwan travel agencies are also promoting the Shanghai Expo as an exciting travel opportunity for local people. They have also given out free expo tickets and maglev train tickets.
