Chinese shares fall, eye biggest weekly loss this year

BEIJING - Chinese equities fell on Friday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.53 percent, ending the week with a 4.69 percent drop, the biggest weekly decline this year.

The main index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange ended at 2,983.54 points, down 15.95 points, or 0.53 percent.

The Shenzhen Component Index ended almost flat at 11,702.87 points, with a slight dip of 1.09 points.

Total turnover shrank to 253.28 billion yuan ($37.09 billion) from 279.83 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 541 to 311 in Shanghai and 615 to 279 in Shenzhen.
