Chinese shares edge up Tuesday

BEIJING: Chinese equities edged up Tuesday, rising for the third consecutive days, led by gains in sectors such as auto manufacturers and electronic information.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange inched up 0.15 percent, or 4.67 points, to end at 3,128.47 points. The Shenzhen Component Index on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange closed at 12,593.04 points, up 40.59 points, or 0.32 percent.

Combined turnover was 215.08 billion yuan ($31.49 billion), down from 251.35 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 511 to 346 in Shanghai and 605 to 280 in Shenzhen.
