Chinese shares close higher on Tuesday

Chinese equities closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.53 percent or 15.9 points to close at 2,992.84 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed at 11,948.76 points, up 45.43 points, or 0.38 percent.

Combined turnover shrank to 121.56 billion yuan ($17.8 billion) from 130.39 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Winners outnumbered losers by 697 to 176 in Shanghai and 645 to 245 in Shenzhen.
