Chinese shares close higher Monday

BEIJING - Chinese equities closed higher Monday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange closing at 3,053.23 points, up 0.73 percent, or 22.17 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed at 12,437.57 points, up 95.83 points, or 0.78 percent, from the previous close.

Combined turnover Monday was 164.02 billion yuan ($24.03 billion), down from 182.5 billion yuan the previous trading day.
