Electricity consumption in Macao up 7.8% in Q3

The consumption of electricity in Macao totaled 1.1 billion kWh in the third quarter of 2009, an increase of 7.8 percent over last year, according to the figures released by its Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) on Friday.

When compared with the previous quarter, the amount of electricity consumption surged by 24.1 percent in the third quarter, the DSEC figures indicated.

Attributable to an 82.4 percent increase of imports of electricity, the available supply of electricity also went up by 27.8 percent quarter-to-quarter in the period.

However, local generation of electricity decreased by 27.6 percent quarter-to-quarter to 339 million kWh, the figure indicated.
