Beijing keen on China IV standard

Amid worries that Beijing would fail to deliver on its promise on carrying out the China IV standard, Du Shaozhong, vice-director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Environmental Protection, made it clear that the China IV fuel standard will begin to take effect at the end of the year and the China IV emission standard will be effective in the first half of 2008.

Recently, there were concerns that the municipal government will not be able to release the new standard because the low-quality fuel supply would prevent vehicles from meeting the emission standard.

But Wang Yuying, vice board director of Sinopec Yanshan Chemical Corporation, one of the main fuel suppliers of the city, pledged to provide China IV emission standard gasoline and diesel.
