A Chinese legislative spokesperson on Thursday urged the United States to abandon a zero-sum mindset and ideological bias, and to stop implementing negative China-related provisions in its defense policy bill, warning that such moves interfere in China's internal affairs and harm bilateral relations.

Xu Dong, spokesperson for the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislative body, expressed strong opposition to the US National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2026, which includes provisions targeting China.

Xu said the legislation continues a long-standing pattern of containing China, exaggerating the so-called "China threat," and undermining China's core interests.

"We express strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to this," Xu said.

Xu urged the US side to view China's development and China-US relations objectively and rationally, move in the same direction as China, and jointly implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state at the Busan summit.

"If the US side insists on going its own way, China will take resolute and forceful measures in accordance with the law to firmly safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests," Xu warned.
