The Chinese Academy of Sciences' Precision Seed Design and Breeding program has identified key genes required for food security, seed sovereignty and sustainable agriculture.

Work carried out since 2019 has pinpointed crucial genes and regulatory networks that enhance crop yields, quality, nitrogen efficiency and resistance to stress and diseases.

Researchers have developed 37 pilot crop varieties with higher yields and reduced fertilizer use. The new crop varieties are being tested on 965,000 hectares of farmland nationwide.
