Amdo county of the Xizang autonomous region has embarked on a transformative journey in recent years to improve elderly care services, China Xizang Online reported.

The county's vision includes substantial investments in welfare initiatives, such as a 5 million yuan ($707,000) fund for an elderly care apartment program, and a 3 million yuan fund for an oxygen supply project. Inside the county's concentrated support service center for the poor, lush greenery and vibrant flowers bloom inside a greenhouse, offering a stark contrast to the harsh conditions outside.

"Thanks to the significant investment from the higher-level Party committees and government, we can cultivate greenery even in such an environment," Taphun, head of the center, was quoted as saying by China Xizang Online.

A major milestone was reached recently when 75 seniors returned to Amdo after being temporarily relocated during renovations. They were welcomed into brand-new apartments equipped with modern conveniences, including heating systems, oxygen supply options, private bathrooms, and accessible facilities. "This marks a happier chapter in their lives," said Taphun.

Residents have voiced their heartfelt appreciation. Among them is 79-year-old Tsultrim, who shared his gratitude: "We've got new homes, thanks to the Party and the government!"

In addition, the county combines medical care with elderly care services. The center provides healthcare consultations, health management programs, physiotherapy, recreational activities, and traditional Tibetan medicine therapy.
