A joint investigation team in Chenzhou, Hunan province, confirmed on Monday that it is investigating a case involving a local shop owner who publicly accused government officials of misconduct and posted a video appearing to show himself drinking herbicide.

The fireworks shop owner, surnamed Peng, from Beihu district, made a real-name report alleging misconduct and disciplinary violations by officials. In a video posted online, Peng was seen consuming a liquid suspected to be a highly toxic herbicide.

According to a statement from the local government, Peng was located by police and is receiving intensive medical treatment. A joint investigation team, comprising members from the city's Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision, the Public Security Bureau, the Emergency Management Bureau, and other government departments, is conducting a thorough investigation into Peng's allegations.

Any confirmed misconduct will be addressed in strict accordance with laws and regulations, the statement said.
