Bi Baowen, former vice-governor of Heilongjiang province and former head of the provincial public security department, is under investigation for suspected serious violations of Party disciplines and national laws, China's top anti-corruption watchdogs announced Thursday.

The Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision disclosed the investigation online, providing no further details.

Public records show Bi, 65, a native of Shandong province, began his career in 1980 and joined the Party in 1985. He rose through the public security system, holding posts across Shandong for decades.

In 2016, Bi served as head of the Heilongjiang Provincial Public Security Department. The following year, he became provincial vice-governor while continuing to lead the provincial police. He remained in those posts until 2020.
