Jiangsu professor investigated for academic fraud, misappropriation of funds
A professor and doctoral advisor at Jiangsu University of Science and Technology has recently come under scrutiny for alleged academic fraud and misappropriation of national research funds, prompting the university to announce on Tuesday that he has been found guilty of serious academic misconduct.
The university announced via its official Weibo account that his employment contract had been terminated and he had been reported to the police for an ongoing investigation.
In September 2025, the university received reports alleging that the professor, surnamed Guo, was guilty of academic misconduct and launched an investigation. They found the reports to be accurate after verifying the claims and collecting evidence.
Guo has been taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
According to the university, arrangements have been made for the students and staff within Guo's team. All of his students have been reassigned to new advisors, ensuring their studies will not be disrupted.
The announcement also said that the university has acknowledged the issue of insufficient scrutiny during Guo's recruitment process. They intend to hold those responsible accountable and improve their hiring practices to prevent similar problems from recurring.
