BEIJING -- Jiang Chaoliang, a former member of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office for serious violations of Party discipline and laws, according to an official statement on Monday.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision stated in their joint statement that the decisions were made following an investigation into Jiang's case, conducted with the approval of the CPC Central Committee.

Jiang, also former vice-chairperson of the NPC Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, was found to have lost his ideals and convictions. He engaged extensively in power-for-money deals and family corruption.

The investigation also found that Jiang had taken advantage of his positions to seek profits for others in matters such as business operations, loan approvals, project contracting and job promotions, illegally accepting huge amounts of money and gifts in return.

His illicit gains will be confiscated and the case will be transferred to procuratorial authorities for examination and prosecution in accordance with the law, the statement noted.
