China's top market regulator has opened an antitrust investigation into US chipmaker Qualcomm Inc for failing to properly file its acquisition of automotive chip firm Autotalks, the State Administration for Market Regulation said on Friday.

The regulator said the probe was launched in accordance with the country's anti-monopoly law, citing suspicions that Qualcomm's deal constituted a concentration of business operators that should have been declared in advance.
