AI risks, collaborative defense focus of Kunming cyber forum

A series of high-level cybersecurity-themed events will be held next week in Kunming, Yunnan province, where the latest framework for artificial intelligence security governance will be unveiled, a cyber affairs official announced on Monday.
The events include the opening ceremony of the 2025 Cybersecurity Week, scheduled for Sept 15, and the cybersecurity technology summit forum, which will run from Sept 15 to 17, Gao Lin, an official from the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, said at a news conference in Beijing.
The forum will feature 12 sub-forums focusing on various high-profile topics, including collaborative cyber defense, AI security, cross-border data issues, the protection of critical information infrastructure, and cloud service security.
Gao said the forum will release significant achievements in the field of cybersecurity, including the 2.0 version of the AI Security Governance Framework.
Since the release of the 1.0 version during 2024's Cybersecurity Week, the AI security landscape has undergone numerous changes, he said. "The application of new high-performance, lightweight open-source models and the proliferation of intelligent agents have accelerated AI's development in various industries."
"The 2.0 version builds upon and extends the risk management approaches of the 1.0 version, proposing guidelines for addressing the risks of AI running out of control, and promoting collaborative governance and inclusive sharing of AI," the official said.
Additionally, the forum will release the test results of AI technology empowering cybersecurity applications by 2025.
Over 200 teams participated in the testing activities. Gao noted that this year, the most outstanding teams in AI-driven cybersecurity product development will be selected.
