Quzhou, Zhejiang: Solar-plus-storage integration creates green-energy benchmark for manufacturing

Liren Wood Industry, a traditional wooden-door manufacturer in Jiangshan, Quzhou, Zhejiang province, has long grappled with high electricity costs and unreliable peak-period supply.
Energy-intensive processes such as kiln-drying and sanding keep power expenses elevated, while mandatory load curtailments during summer demand peaks periodically disrupt production schedules. The newly commissioned solar-plus-storage microgrid now offers a solution. During daylight hours, rooftop PV arrays directly supply the plant, with surplus generation stored in lithium-ion battery banks. When grid prices spike or solar output declines, the batteries seamlessly discharge, maintaining uninterrupted production and delivering measurable reductions in both energy costs and carbon intensity.
From project launch to operation, the State Grid Quzhou Power Supply Company acted as the single point of contact. A dedicated technical team optimized PV layout and battery placement through iterative simulations to maximize generation-usage overlap and storage utilization. A "green-channel" approval process accelerated interconnection timelines, while field engineers provided end-to-end oversight of commissioning, testing and grid-connection, ensuring safety, quality and on-time delivery.
Liren Wood's project is more than a case of isolated success — it has become Jiangshan's flagship demonstration of manufacturing decarbonization. Eight local manufacturers have already approached State Grid Quzhou for feasibility studies on similar solar-plus-storage installations.
Solar-plus-storage is now a cornerstone of the energy transition. State Grid Quzhou intends to deploy an AI-enabled energy-management platform that uses big-data analytics to continuously balance PV generation, battery charge–discharge cycles, and plant load in real time, further improving energy efficiency.
By leveraging electrification and digitalization, the utility is accelerating the green upgrade of Jiangshan's manufacturing base and delivering tangible progress toward China's dual-carbon goals.
