Former defense ministry spokesman takes up new role in Egypt

Major General Wu Qian, a former spokesman for China's Ministry of National Defense, has assumed his new role of defense attaché at the Chinese Embassy in Egypt.

According to a news release from the Chinese Embassy in Egypt on Friday, a reception was held on Thursday to celebrate the 98th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army and to welcome the new defense attaché.

Liao Liqiang, Chinese Ambassador to Egypt, introduced Wu to the Chinese and foreign guests at the reception.

In his speech, Wu said that, as the new defense attaché, he will make every effort to promote practical cooperation between the Chinese and Egyptian militaries in areas such as high-level exchanges, joint exercises and training, and personnel training, contributing to regional peace and stability.

According to publicly available information, Wu, born in 1973, enrolled at the college of international relations under the PLA in 1991. He also studied at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, where he earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration.

Wu served as the spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense from 2015 until earlier this year.
