The Association of International Chemical Manufacturers (AICM), a global industrial organization, convened its 2025 annual general meeting in Shanghai on April 24, gathering senior executives from nearly 40 major multinational chemical companies to foster closer cooperation and drive sustainable growth in China's chemical industry.

Xia Fuliang, AICM board chairman, delivered remarks at the meeting's opening ceremony thanking members for their active participation, the association said in a statement.

Xia, who also is president of Evonik China, the German specialty chemicals manufacturer, and head of Evonik's smart materials division for the Asia-Pacific region, reaffirmed AICM's role as a vital bridge for stakeholder engagement. Tina Dai, AICM's managing director, presided over the conference.

During the first session, Marc Horn, AICM board member and president of Merck China, Rui Coelho, AICM board member and president and CEO of Air Liquide China, as well as Tina Dai, AICM managing director, delivered presentations on the association's key strategic initiatives.

According to the statement, the chairs of AICM's committees presented their respective annual reports during the meeting. The Responsible Care Committee detailed its efforts and achievements in advancing sustainable development in the chemical industry and enhancing environmental awareness and practices.

In the meantime, the Industry Policy Advocacy Committee highlighted key measures to strengthen regulatory exchanges and promote technological innovation, while the Public Relations and Communication Committee outlined AICM's progress in enhancing its brand image and strengthening public engagement.

To acknowledge the long-term support and dedication of its members and industry experts, AICM presented awards at the conference to contributors with 10 years and 20 years of service, as well as to the 2024 annual contributors who have made lasting contributions to the association's growth.

AICM said that the recognition not only reflected the collective achievements and shared value created by members over the years, but also underscored its strong industry cohesion and confidence in future development.

Through establishing high-level dialogue platforms, fostering consensus among multinational chemical companies, and contributing professional insights, the association has reaffirmed its active commitment to promoting industry development and facilitating international exchange and cooperation, said the statement.

Looking ahead, AICM will continue to leverage the strengths of its member companies to drive technological innovation and industrial upgrading, injecting fresh momentum into the sustainable growth of China's chemical sector.
