Researcher: Highly-skilled workers, master craftsmen vital

Amid the country's call for cultivating more highly-skilled workers and master craftsmen to boost its talent development, more youth are joining the rank to enhance their caliber.
Shen Yingyin, a research at Soochow University in Jiangsu province, noted that the quality of workers is very important to the development of a country.
Currently, the total number of skilled talents in China has surpassed 200 million, providing a powerful talent support for the country's high-quality development, she said.
Yin Liwu, a technician in Southwest China's Yunnan province, has become a role model for his colleagues by pursuing his excellence since 2014, winning top awards in skills competitions.
The 20th CPC Central Committee convened its third plenary session in July 2024 with a resolution, calling for deepening institutional reforms for talent development while building a high-standard socialist market economy.
Yin, an employee of Dali Cigarette Factory under Yunnan Tobacco's Hongta Group, graduated in 2014 with a university degree in automation, successively working in the operation of cigarette-making equipment, repairing wrapping and logistics machinery, and as a safety administrator in the warehouse management department at the factory.
In mid-December 2024, Yin won the first prize in the inaugural industry-wide tobacco leaf warehouse management skills competition — his fourth time participating in technical contests, each time in a different field.
Earlier, to speed up his skills, he took part in three competitions organized by Yunnan Tobacco and Hongta Group, including those for ZJ116 and M5 cigarette-making equipment as well as safety management positions, reaching 6th, 4th and 3rd place, respectively.
"I enjoy using competitions to optimize my job knowledge structure," said Yin, noting that he thought that by facing difficulties head-on, responding cautiously and tackling problems one by one, he can meet challenges with confidence.
Yin stressed that in a bid to boost his skills, he needs to prepare for the competition through intensive learning while at work.
Ding Jiemei, Yin's colleague, said that Yin used a cyclical review method to enhance his theoretical knowledge, meticulously summarizing the main ideas and building frameworks in his notebook after reading each chapter, then returning to the book for details and forming a mental map.
Zheng Siqian, another colleague of Yin, stressed that it is the enterprise's spirit of "striving for the best" that has helped Yin redouble his efforts in action in his pursuit for excellence.
