CRRC Dalian, a China Railway Rolling Stock Corp subsidiary, officially launched a 1,000-kilowatt new energy hybrid locomotive on Wednesday in Dalian, Liaoning province.

This locomotive utilizes a large-capacity lithium-ion power battery as the primary power source, with a diesel engine serving as backup during charging. The diesel engine unit operates only at optimal economic speeds through the hybrid power control system, meeting traction requirements while achieving energy efficiency, emission reduction and noise reduction goals.

The train is expected to achieve fuel savings of over 40 percent. Compared to traditional internal combustion locomotives, this new energy locomotive can reduce the emissions of nitrogen oxide, hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide by 45, 73 and 83 percent, respectively, according to the company.

Moreover, the new energy locomotive can simulate the operating habits of experienced drivers, enabling autonomous intelligent transportation in closed scenarios.

Sun Shidong, vice general manager of CRRC Dalian, noted a strong demand for this new energy-shunting locomotive in the market. CRRC has expressed intentions to cooperate with Ansteel Group, a State-owned steel maker, with plans to mass sell these locomotives this year in anticipation of future demand.
