The 27th Chengdu Motor Show is set to kick off on Friday in the Sichuan capital, with more than 1,600 vehicle models from 130 domestic and foreign automakers on display, the organizers said on Monday. The event is scheduled to run through Sept 8.

Zhu Jianwei, general director of the organizing committee, said the event will feature hybrid, pure electric and gasoline-powered vehicles at a record exhibition area of 220,000 square meters.

China's major new energy vehicle maker, BYD, will showcase its brands in a dedicated pavilion, while Chinese tech firm Xiaomi will display its first self-developed new energy vehicle model, the SU7, in a full range of colors, he said.

Zhu said the Chinese electric vehicle battery giant CATL will make its debut at the Chengdu Motor Show, bringing its latest cutting-edge battery technology achievements and innovative products.

Xpeng Aeroht, an affiliate of Chinese smart carmaker Xpeng, will showcase its latest achievements in low-altitude air mobility, he said.

International brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Porsche will wow visitors with their latest models, Zhu added.

To boost car consumption, the Chengdu city government has announced they will launch a reward program during the auto show, providing subsidies to individual consumers worth 100 million yuan ($14 million).

Consumers who buy new energy or fuel vehicles for personal use can receive a maximum reward of 8,000 yuan and 7,000 yuan, respectively.
