Envoy to attend event in Dominican Republic
Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Tuesday that Jin Zhuanglong, special envoy of President Xi Jinping and minister of industry and information technology, will attend President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader's second-term inauguration on Friday in the capital Santo Domingo. Abinader declared victory in the May presidential race.

Monsoon death toll continues to rise
Torrential storms lashing India and Nepal have killed hundreds of people since June, official data showed on Tuesday, with flooding and landslides causing widespread devastation during the monsoon season. More than 200 people died in India's Kerala state last month, when landslides hit villages and tea plantations. In Nepal, 171 people have died since monsoon rains began in mid-June, including 109 people in landslides.

Samsung main union to strike over pay
Samsung Electronics' biggest workers' union in South Korea said on Tuesday it would begin a four-day strike from Thursday to pressure the company over higher wages and bonuses after talks with management fell through last month. Lee Hyun-kuk, vice-president of the National Samsung Electronics Union, said in a live YouTube broadcast, "This strike is strategically designed to damage the company." The union's 36,500 members make up about 30 percent of Samsung Electronics' South Korean workforce.
