Yang Kening, a former senior political advisor in Southwest China's Sichuan province, has been arrested on suspicion of taking bribes, as announced by the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Monday.

The SPP said in a statement that Yang's case has been handed over to the procuratorial organs after the National Commission of Supervision concluded the investigation.

Yang was formerly a member of the leading Communist Party of China members group of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice-chairman of the committee.

Yang, 62, a native of Sichuan, began working in 1982 and joined the Party in 1987. He spent his career life in the province, including about 23 years in Sichuan's Aba Tibetan and Qiang autonomous prefectures. He rose to the position of vice-chairman of the CPPCC Sichuan provincial committee in 2021.

In November 2023, a statement from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, China's top anti-graft watchdogs, announced that Yang had been placed under investigation for suspected severe violations of discipline and laws.

In May, the CCDI and NCS announced that Yang had been expelled from the party and dismissed from public office. The commissions said in a statement that Yang failed to fully implement major decisions and deployments of the CPC Central Committee, exhibited laziness and negligence in his duties, and deliberately "lay flat".

He engaged in opportunistic behavior associated with political fraud, resisted organizational investigations, and practiced superstitions. He also used his authority to benefit his son's business ventures and engaged in power-for-sex transactions.

Yang is also a member of the China Writers Association and writes under the pen name Ningke Duojie. He began publishing works in 1980. In addition to some poetry and essays, a significant portion of his work consists of officialdom novels. One of his long novels was published in the October 2023 issue of National Literature.
