Guangdong highway collapse: Death toll rises to 36


Thirty-six people died after a section of a highway collapsed early on Wednesday morning in Meizhou, Guangdong province, said local authorities on Thursday.
Twenty-three cars were trapped as almost 18 meters of road, with an area of around 184 square meters, collapsed at 2:10 am on Wednesday.
Thirty individuals were undergoing treatment in the hospital, with no life-threatening conditions reported, it added.
To meet the demand for blood, several blood donation centers have been opened in Meizhou city. Local authorities are calling on more volunteers and individuals from all walks of life to donate blood, provided they are in good health, to contribute to the lifesaving efforts.
Medical experts from Guangdong province and Meizhou city have been dispatched to provide consultations and ensure the best care for the injured.
Disaster response and follow-up efforts are proceeding in an orderly manner.
