Jinan will organize over 100 events featuring 10 major themes, including food, shopping, tourism, culture, heritage, art, and competition, during the upcoming May Day holiday, according to a news conference held on April 10.

The city will blend cuisine with culture in the fourth "Chinese Food Expo", the China Catering Industry Development Conference and the first craft beer festival.

For shopping, Jinan will focus on 10 areas, including automobiles, home appliances, time-honored brands, and rural markets, and plan various shopping events to stimulate consumption and promote Jinan's quality products nationwide.

The city has also launched a poetry challenge for tourists nationwide, with participants having the chance to win entrance tickets and cultural and creative gifts.

The city will organize exhibitions and experiential events for certain intangible cultural heritage (ICH) items like Jinan dough sculpture, Longshan black pottery, and Fu Pai Ejiao, donkey-hide gelatin, as well as handicraft events and photography contests.

In addition, Jinan will leverage tourist attractions such as Mingshui Ancient City and the Chengziya archaeological sites to host 36 special cultural tourism events across six major categories, allowing tourists to experience the charm of historical culture.

Jinan will also host special performances of unique theatrical genres such as Jinan Lyu Opera, yangko dances, and Jinan shadow puppetry at various performing arts venues.

In addition, Jinan will hold a number of competitions, including an international street dance, the first e-sports fair, and a half-marathon event, making "traveling with competition events" a new trend in Jinan.
