Top court urges child protection in divorces
The Supreme People's Court has instructed courts across the country to highlight the protection of children during divorce trials. Judges are required to remind divorcing parents of their legal obligations toward their children and warn them of the consequences of violating related laws, the top court said in a statement issued on Monday. Divorcing parents will be fully informed of the legal consequences of forcefully seizing or hiding children with the intention of gaining custody, it said. Local courts will be encouraged to deploy various media — online or offline, face-to-face or written, in text or via video — to highlight child protection at every stage of a divorce trial. Similar measures can also be introduced in other trials involving minors, the statement said.
Former legislator under investigation
Du Zi, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is under disciplinary and supervisory investigation, an official statement said Monday. Du, also former deputy secretary of the leading Party members group of the Standing Committee, is being investigated by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Commission of Supervision for suspected severe violations of disciplines and laws, a statement from the two agencies said.
