Shanghai Disney Resort announces new expansion plans

Shanghai Disney Resort plans to introduce another separately themed attraction within Shanghai Disneyland, according to a news release on Monday.

Located adjacent to the recently opened Zootopia area, the new themed attraction is now undergoing initial preparation work for construction. The news release did not give any detail on the attraction.

At the same time, the resort updated the progress on the third Disney-themed hotel located on the shores of Wishing Star Lake within the resort. The piling work of the 400-room hotel has been completed, paving the way for superstructure works to begin.

Site work of the hotel officially launched in August 2023, when leaders from the resort's joint venture shareholders broke ground on the lakefront facility.

Since opening in June 2016, Shanghai Disney Resort has expanded with the addition of Disney·Pixar Toy Story Land in April 2018, and a second new themed land, Zootopia, in December 2023. The latest expansion plans demonstrate the resort's commitment to providing new offerings and developing the resort as a multi-day tourism destination for guests from near and far, according the news release.
