State Grid Corp unites with local forestry departments to prevent forest fire disasters

State Grid Corp of China, together with local forestry departments, is actively exploring ways to achieve the joint governance of electricity and forestry, keeping people safe during the forest fire seasons.
Earlier this month, the State Grid's power supply company in Laiwu district of Jinan, Shandong province conducted an emergency drill for forest fires, in which it cooperated with the local forestry department to effectively control the fire and ensure the safety of the power system.
Having made a successful attempt, the company said it will continue to improve the "joint governance mechanism" by conducting further research and refining the measures, with a focus on resource and power line protection, as well as the prevention of forest and grass fires.
The company said during a forest fire it uses various methods to carry out emergency rescue and protect power distribution equipment, including video surveillance, air patrols, ground patrols and fire lookouts. The latest digital technologies are also fully utilized throughout the whole process.
In addition, both the company and the local government give full play to their strengths in resources, technologies and talents. For example, the company uses advanced drones and the forestry department provides comprehensive data from its satellite remote sensing platform.
