The United States and China need to "boost courage" to drive relations a step forward to benefit all, said Steve Orlins, president of the National Committee on US-China Relations.

Highlighting how the year of 2024 will mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between US and China, Orlins said that he was impressed by the efforts that two countries have made to drive development over the past decades.

Quoting others' remarks saying that the US and China are uniquely positioned to make the world peaceful and prosperous, and also uniquely positioned to destroy it, Orlins emphasized that "the US and China must find a way to get along".

To achieve that goal, he repeated in Chinese that the two countries should "boost courage" for the people during his speech at the Sanya Forum held by Caijing Magazine that ended on Sunday.

Though US-Sino relations are confronted with problems, he noted that we are beginning to see bravery from both countries since the top-level meeting in San Francisco recently.

"(The meeting) allowed the US, for the first time in a number of years, to begin to make progress on certain issues."

Orlins said that more joint efforts are needed on issues like transportation convenience and cybersecurity.

For instance, the US should make it easier for Chinese citizens to get visas while China also needs to make it easier for Americans to come, he said.
