Salt supply sufficient, prices stable: JD Super

JD Super, the online supermarket arm of Chinese e-commerce giant JD, said on Friday that the overall supply of edible salt is sufficient and the price is stable, so panic buying is unnecessary.
The comments came with the rising demand for salt products following Japan's discharge of nuclear-contaminated water into the Pacific Ocean on Thursday.
The searches for the key word "salt" surged 377 percent on JD Super from midnight to 11 am on Thursday, compared with the same period in July, while the transaction volume of edible salt skyrocketed 498 percent during the brief period, the company said.
JD Super said it has ramped up the supply since Tuesday as the sales of some salt products have increased dramatically and, currently, the edible salt of different brands are gradually entering JD's warehouses across the nation.
As for the salt products that have been temporarily sold out, sufficient stock could be achieved in the next three days, it noted.
JD Super said consumers can also choose salt products with diverse specifications from third-party sellers at the online marketplace, if the commodities from JD's self-operated stores were displayed as being out of stock.
