'Cherry flight' brings new collaboration between JD, Weihai Airport

A cargo aircraft landed at the Weihai International Airport and passed through water jets on Thursday, marking the start of JD Airlines' "cherry flight".
The "cherry flight," operated between Weihai and Hangzhou by JD Logistics-affiliated airline, is expected to transport 20 tons of products every day. The cherries will arrive in Hangzhou within two hours, establishing a 24-hour transport industry chain covering e-commerce purchase, air transportation and home delivery.
Wendeng district of Weihai city, where the Weihai International Airport located, is one of the major cherry planting regions in Shandong province. Besides cherries, Wendeng also has agricultural products with local characteristics, such as peanuts, apples, and grapes.
To extend online sales channels, Weihai city government, Wendeng district government and Weihai International Airport are working with JD to help sell local specialties.
On the same day, Weihai International Airport signed strategic cooperation agreement with JD Logistics, which is the logistics arm of e-commerce giant JD.com.
The two sides plan to increase types of cargo transport and deepen cooperation in transport capacity planning and market development.
